Overall a great stay! The staff, especially Ricardo at the buffet, took amazing care of us and made sure our 12-year-old twins\u2019 food allergies were never an issue. Joyce and Rolfi on the entertainment team were amazing! Hector on the pool wait staff did a great job keeping us all fed and in our drinks of choice. Rolf took us to Chileno beach to go snorkeling and one of my highlights was watching my kids lose their minds at the number of fish that was all around them! Oscar at UVC was great and didn\u2019t pressure us to have a meeting – this was our first trip as members so we want to get a few under our belt first.
\nFood – Portofino, while slow, was pretty good. Their gnocchi was great – our son had 3 plates of it! My salmon was good, and our daughter had 3 plates of beef carpaccio. The breakfast buffet is delicious and incredibly varied – the chef, Jonathan, made our daughter pancakes with water every morning since she cannot have dairy. The service at Oceana was excellent – they cooked the fish my husband and daughter caught so we can\u2019t really speak to their food, but it looked good! Seaside Grill is fine and quick, and definitely take a turn on the swings at Barefoot Cafe – try the jalape\u00f1o margarita if you are brave! While the hotel was at full capacity, we didn\u2019t really have issues finding chairs around the pool.
\nWe were in room 102 – super convenient to most food and the activities pool! We had an oceanfront double junior suite, and didn\u2019t get an upgrade – we were offered a paid upgrade to a corner room for $250 a night, which we declined – but when we were offered it, the guy at the front desk told us that our room was small and had a bad view, which is not the best way to start. Anyway, the room was fine – we weren\u2019t in there that much – but it was a lot of closeness for the 4 of us! It would have been nice to have had a separate bedroom or another half bath, but it was fine. The one thing though about rooms 101, 102, and 103 are that they are on the corridor from which all of the catering equipment is moved – chairs, tables, etc for all of the beach weddings (in our 4 days we saw 6 weddings). That movement is LOUD. It ended by midnight, but did start up again pretty early in the am (7am maybe)? It caused us to have a couple of early mornings, but we didn\u2019t mind too much.
\nThe explorers club is definitely geared for younger kids – our 12-year-olds took a look, declared it a daycare, and never looked again. They had a great time at the activities pool, though!
\nEverything was clean and kept up beautifully.
